Ideology

Ideology is a set of attitudes and beliefs which an individual or group value and see as important. The media is seen as a dominant ideology; this means it reflects certian views for example; in action films such as Die Hard solving problems with force and violence is seen as acceptable. It also includes the way people are represented and this can become very influential to the target audience, as it presents an opinion that people tend to share. Ideologies can also be presented by certian social groups such as the church, law, education and government; these are also known as dominant ideologies.

Ideological Discourse
These are ideas that are debated over in the media. The views taken on these subjects form the basis of our 'social rules'; topics include:
- environment
- sexuality
- racism
- gender
- crime and punishment
- political groups
